Branding at the World Para Swimming 2018

Event Signage

This was a great job from start to finish. And, yes pretty hectic!

The National Aquatic Centre is a big venue to say the least and the material required to dress the site for a global event of this size was significant indeed.  Whilst the focus was always going to be the pool and its surrounds, the car parks, the entrance lobby and the walkways throughout the building were also part of the brief.

It all started in January when we won the contract, beating stiff competition it must be said.  Planning started almost immediately, intensified for the 8 weeks leading up to the event and included 2 weeks on site fitting all the different elements.

The piece de resistance is most definitely the gigantic 364 square metre curtain hanging over the pool. It is made of dye sublimation printed polyester digitally keylined to fit perfectly into the arch of the roof. The banner is made as one single piece with no seams to interrupt the graphic. The print finish is matt to ensure there is no camera flare. To address the weight challenge, we used the highest quality matt polyester as it is lighter. This allowed us to install in one section using specialist height equipment. It took a full day to lift this mega curtain into position. To put the size of the curtain into perspective, our fitter standing below it in the picture is 6’5″ tall!

We also created and installed the 3m x 30m ‘Turn-In’ and ‘Start-In’ walls at either end of the pool using printed PVC stretched over wooden frames. Other elements in the images are the 38 national flags hanging over the pool, the vinyl on the glass balconies in the spectator area, all the advertising banners around the pool, the window vinyls outside and at the entrances, the banners in the lobby and car parks.  And so much more!

It was a great job and one that we are very proud of and honoured to have been involved in. Well done to everyone involved and in particular to the project management team at the Para Olympics, Paddy, Gemma, Sinead and Sue.
