Hoarding & Scaffolding Wrap

As scaffolding wraps go, this one is pretty special.

The Location:
It is located on Donnybrook House, which is on the main street in Donnybrook opposite the Garda Station. This is a high profile and very visible site, which has been waiting to be developed for a number of years.

The Client:
Well, the time has finally come and our client, U+I, is now developing the site for new offices, a gym and retail units.  There will also be apartments on the upper floors.  U+I wanted to do something special bearing in mind the importance of the site. Something that would really grab people’s attention and reinforce the high specification of the this development.

The Team:
For the design, U+I turned to the branding consultancy, Neworld Associates who came up with this great concept. Also part of the team was Collen Construction who is carrying out the Construction work on behalf of U+I and Brogan Scaffolding, who built and installed the scaffold, making sure it was prepared and installed perfectly (and safely of course). Essential for a job of this precise nature.

The Task:
iQ Branding Solutions handled all the printing and production on this project using our own HP Scitex Wide-Format Print Press. All the fitting was done by our sign fitting team over just one weekend! That’s all the time we had as DLRCC only gave one weekend for the traffic-lane closure needed to complete the work. Yes, it was a challenge but then we love a challenge here at iQ HQ!

The Detail:
The first step was to build one of our custom alu-frames onto the scaffold. This is a perfectly engineered frame that we clamp onto the front and returns of the scaffold to millimetre precision.

We then Printed a 300m2 PVC Banner, again produced to millimetre precision. It had to be strengthened all around with reinforcement webbing, double stitching and brass eyelets.

It took no less then eleven men to manually lift the banner onto the scaffold and into position. we then had to tension-stretch it perfectly so that the banner looks like it is a giant trampoline installed on its side.

It’s this tightly “sprung” installation that really makes the image pop and the 3D hand effect work so well. Well done Mary and Gary over at Neworld for some really great graphics on this one!

In addition to the scaffold-wrap, we also did a full branded make-over on the pedestrian walkway underneath. We used printed high-gloss DiBond alloy panels, all custom-cut to create windows into the pedestrian walkway.

The “Donnybrook House” lettering in the centre of the hoarding was created using fret-cut out lettering with push-through 3D opal acrylic letters. This allowed us to face-lit the 3D lettering with rear-mounted high white brightness LED’s.

To finish off the internal pedestrian walkway, we added red strip LED lighting the whole way along.  This gives it a subtle red aura in the hours of darkness, which added an almost ethereal effect to the whole installation.  Very cool.
